Dental Bridges in Wilmington, DE

If you’re living with one or more missing teeth, it can make eating difficult and damage your oral health as well. Missing teeth can also hurt your self-confidence and leave you feeling reluctant to smile.

When a patient experiences tooth loss for any reason, it’s important to restore the tooth as soon as possible to protect your oral health. An attractive dental bridge is a treatment option that Dr. Syed uses to complete your smile and make eating fun again.

What’s a Dental Bridge?

If you’re looking to restore a single missing tooth or more than one teeth that are next to each other, Dr. Syed may recommend a dental bridge. This restoration secures one or more natural-looking prosthetic teeth called pontics.

Types of Dental Bridges

  1. Traditional fixed bridge — this popular bridge option is used to hold one or more prosthetic teeth in place by securing it to crowns on both sides of the empty space.
  2. Cantilever bridge — similar to a traditional fixed bridge, this type of bridge holds the replacement tooth in place using a crown, but only one crown is used instead of two.
  3. Resin-bonded bridge — unlike the other two types of bridges, this option uses metal bands instead of crowns to secure the replacement tooth.

The Dental Bridge Process

It typically takes two appointments to get your dental bridge. This allows our dental lab time to create your custom restoration.

During your initial appointment, Dr. Syed will create digital images of your teeth to make sure your bridge fits properly. He’ll also reshape any teeth that will be receiving dental crowns and place temporary crowns over them to protect them until your permanent crowns are ready.

Once your permanent bridge is ready to go, you’ll return to our office to have it placed. Dr. Syed will remove the temporary crowns, prep the teeth if necessary, and attach your new bridge.

Implant-Supported Bridge

If you have more than one missing teeth that are adjacent to each other, Dr. Syed may recommend an implant-supported bridge. This innovative treatment option provides outstanding stability. Unlike the traditional type of bridge that’s secured with dental crowns, an implant-supported bridge doesn’t put any pressure on surrounding teeth because it’s secured using dental implants that act as artifical tooth roots.
